One good thing about being in the middle of cyclonic conditions last night meant that since Footy training was off I could watch the Super 12 games - every cloud has it's silver lining? heh.
The Chiefs pulled off a massive upset (yeah I'm down one in the tipping comp from game one) beating the Auckland Blues 27-20 at Eden Park. The look on Carlos Spencer's face as he sat on the bench in the last twenty minutes or so said it all. Argh! The game was a fiercely fought tussle with the Chiefs refusing to take a step backwards throughout the match - I was tired just watching the guys :) The game sat at 17 a piecel for a while, and the Chiefs got in front with a penalty kick. Finally Ben Atiga who'd come on as Spencer's replacement finally kicked a penalty goal for the Blues to level the score at 20-20. He'd missed his first two attempts. The Full time hooter went and it was the last play of the ball. There didn't seem to be much on, but Sione Lauaki grabbed the ball, skirted behind the ruck and made a dash for the line and got there! The try converted gave the Chiefs a big scalp! Byron Kelleher is starting to look at home in his new jersey as well :)
The Tah's were in awesome form again this week flogging the Cats 46-10 in Sydney last night. Mind you, the Cats didn't play exactly well, but top marks to them for giving it their all during the match and not giving in. Mat Rogers was superb, sadly he injured his ankle in the last minute of the match and had to exit the field on a medi-cab. Luckily Rogers has not sustained any serious injury - just a bad sprain and will leave with the Waratahs on the plane to South Africa today. Here's hoping the Tahs can keep up their form in SA.
Looking forward to the Reds/Crusaders clash tonight in Brissie. And the Poms take on Ireland in the 6 nations today, reckon that will be worth a look at well.
Later!
