I'm going to have to go for the Tahs here. I hope that they can get up, by 3

Blues vs Crusaders at Eden Park 5:35PM
I really don't think that the Blues can beat the Crusaders - even away from Jade Stadium. I'm tipping the Christchurch boys to win by 6

Reds vs Hurricanes at Suncorp Stadium 7:40PM
Well, will it be a home ground victory for the Reds at Suncorp Stadium? You know, they have the talent to win the game (though Hugh McMenimen and Ione Digby are out), but I doubt that they will have the goods to upset the Canes. Canes by 6

Force vs Highlanders at Subiaco Oval 9:45PM
This could be a very close game. Neither of these teams have produced the form that they are capable of, expected of even. I'm going to tip the Force at home in Perth to win by 6

Cheetahs vs Stormers at Vodacom Park 12:00AM
I don't really care who wins this game. Both sides have been lack lustre and the Cheetahs are sitting on the wooden spoon with the Stormers not far behind them. On that basis, I'm going to tip the Stormers to win by 2

Sharks vs Bulls at ABSA Stadium 2:05AM
I think that this game could go either way, but I'm going to tip the Bulls - I think that they've been in better form and will want to end the season with a bang. Bulls by 3

Round 13 Super 14 Rugby tips 2009

I had some wins last week, but just as many losses. I could have cried when I watched the Reds/Brumbies game. Sheesh! Berrick Barnes being injured in the warm up didn't help the Reds, but honestly - how dREDful they were!

Anyway, on to this week's tips.

Friday May 8th 2009
Crusaders vs Reds at Jade Stadium 5:35PM
Yeah well, there is no way I am tipping the Reds again this season. The Crusaders home at Jade Stadium are virtually unstoppable, the Reds are missing a stack of players due to injuries incurred last week, so I'm tipping the Crusaders to win by heaps!

Lions vs Highlanders at Coca-Cola Park Stadium 3:10AM
I think the Highlanders peaked a few weeks ago and that the Lions will be true strong for the Dunedin dwellers this week in SA. So, I'm tipping the Lions to win by 4

Chiefs vs Hurricanes at Waikato Stadium 5:35PM
A top of the table battle this week in Kiwi land. The Canes, with their eyes on a home semi-final will be keen to have a win, but then the Chiefs have had a blistering tour of SA. I know the Chiefs are at home, but they're back from tour, and I'm going to tip the Canes. By 1.

Brumbies vs Blues at Canberra Stadium 7:40PM
Geez, this could go either way. The Brumbies form has been inconsistent - belted one week, the belters the next. Still, the Brumbies are hard to beat at home, so I'm hoping that they will get up over the Blues. Brumbies by 3

Sharks vs Waratahs at ABSA Stadium 11:00PM
Both of these teams have been struggling on and off this season. It's do or die for the Tahs, so I'm tipping them to have a win. By 2

SUNDAY
Bulls vs Cheetahs at Loftus Versfeld 1:05AM
The poor old Cheetahs are currently behind the Reds! I'm tipping the Bulls to win by a comfortable margin.

Stormers vs Force at Newlands 3:10AM
Geez, another iffy one. Neither of these teams has really produced anything outstanding this season. I'm going to tip the Force though, by a point.

Round 12 Super 14 Rugby tips 2009

It's certainly getting down to the business end of the Super 14 season for 2009. The Canes remain on the top of the ladder with 34 points, followed by the Bulls on 33, the Chiefs of 32, and the Sharks on 31. The Blues are in 5th spot, and it's not until 6th and 7th that we find the Force and the Tahs sitting on 28 points. uh oh...

So, who's going to grab points this week?

Friday May 1
Hurricanes vs Blues at Westpac Stadium - 5:35PM
Since the Canes are on top of the ladder I'm going to tip them, by 3. I think this game could be tight.

Lions vs Crusaders at Coca-Cola Park Stadium - 11:00PM
I'm going to have to tip the Crusaders, even though they're playing away. The Christchurch boys by 4.

Saturday May 2
Cheetahs vs Waratahs at Vodacom Park - 1:05AM
I hope the Tahs are going to win this one. The Cheetahs have knocked off a few of the 'big' names though this season, and while my heart wants to tip the Tahs, I'm going to tip the Cheetahs. By 1

Reds vs Brumbies at Suncorp Stadium - 7:40PM
Oh my God! I love the Brumbies, I've been INFURIATED with the Reds this season. So... who to pick? I'm going to tip the Reds (slap myself silly). By 1

Sharks vs Highlanders at ABSA Stadium - 11:00PM
I want the Highlanders to have a win this week, but I can't see it happening somehow. Not in South Africa. Not against the Sharks. Sharks by 5

Bulls vs Force at Loftus Versfeld - 1:05AM
I think the away game will be too big of an ask for the Force, and I think the Bulls should win this game comfortably by 4 points or more.

Stormers vs Chiefs at Newlands - 3:10AM
This is a tricky one. The Stormers are at home, but they're not having a fab season. The Chiefs are going great guns, but they're away. I think the Stormers might just salvage this game so I'm going to tip them... by 2

Those silly Highlanders let me down last week, but I reckon that they'll have a win tonight. By 3

Force vs Lions at Subiaco Oval - 9:05PM
I'm going to tip the Force to beat the Lions. Force by 5

Saturday:
Blues vs Reds at Eden Park - 3:30PM
I was disgusted with the Reds last week, as were most of us I suspect. Tipping the Blues by 6.

Hurricanes vs Brumbies at Westpac Stadium - 5:35PM
The Brumbies will want to win this game no doubt, but I think the Canes will be too strong for them. Canes by 3

Cheetahs vs Crusaders at Vodacom Park - 11:00PM
The poor old Cheetahs, I don't think they stand a snow flake's chance in hell of toppling the Crusaders. The Christchurch boys by 12

Sunday:

I need to start taking some chances here in my tipping if I have any hope of getting ahead of others, so, on the basis that they've been playing well, and I do like them - I am going to tip the Highlanders to beat the Blues tonight. By 2 (not very brave)

Friday 17 April 7.40pm
Brumbies vs Bulls at Canberra Stadium
I'm tipping my beloved Brumbies to have a win over the Bulls. The Canberra boys are hard to beat at home, and I think they'll have enough to get them over the line. By 5

Tomorrow:
Saturday 18 April 3.30pm
Hurricanes v Stormers at Westpac Stadium
Go the Canes! I reckon that they'll be able to beat the Stormers quite comfortably in the shaky isles. I'm tipping the Canes by 6

Reds vs Lions at Suncorp Stadium
Don't ask me why I continue to do it to myself - I'm going to tip the *gulp* Reds. Here's hoping that with the return of Will Genia after his three week ban, that the boys can salvage something on their home ground. Reds by 2

Tahs vs the Force at Aussie Stadium
I'd be silly not to tip the Tahs - here's hoping they get up and have a good win in Sydney over the WA boys. Go the Tahs! By 5

Crusaders hold on and the Reds die...

The Crusaders held on, and on, for a 3 point win over the Bulls at Christchurch. Again, it wasn't pretty rugby, but full marks to the Crusaders for the win which I'm sure they'll take. The game see-sawed, but in the end the Bulls just didn't seem to want the win as badly as the Christchurch boys.

The Reds, oh dear. 39-7 loss to the Force. It was sad to watch.

Hmmm well, I'm going to tip the Crusaders at home. They haven't been playing spectacular rugby, but they're winning. At home at Jade Stadium I think that they will get up over the Bulls. By 4

Force vs Reds at Subiaco Oval - 9:05pm Brissie time
I've given up on the Reds. I'm tipping the Force to win by 8, though that could be Giteau to win by 8 :-)

Tomorrow - Saturday 4th April 2009
Chiefs vs Lions Waikato Stadium - 4.35pm kickoff Brissie time
I can't see the Lions beating the in form Chiefs so I'm tipping the NZers to win by 12

Waratahs vs Stormers Aussie Stadium - 6:40pm Brisbane time
The Tahs keep on plugging away, so I am going to tip them. Playing at home, keen to win. Tahs by 5

Mortlock's back so I'm tipping the Brumbies to win, or rather, the Cheetahs to lose - by 6

This game could be close! I'm tipping the Sharks at home, they've been going okay. Sharks by 4

Round 7 Super 14 Rugby tips 2009

Last weekend was a DISASTER for Australian rugby fans! Needless to say, my biased tipping did me no favours. Argh! I hope I can do a bit better this week.

FRIDAY: Blues vs Waratahs at Eden Park - 5:35pm
I know that the Blues got walloped last weekend by the Chiefs but I think that they'll probably want to rectify that this weekend. I'm tipping the Blues by 5

SATURDAY: Highlanders vs Bulls at Carisbrook - 3:30pm kickoff
Well the Bulls are unbeaten, and they haven't had far too travel after last weekend, so I'm going to tip them to beat the Highlanders, but I hope the Highlanders give them a good rattle.

Crusaders vs Stormers at Jade Stadium - 5:35pm
The Crusaders haven't been going their usual thunderous best, but they're back home again this weekend against the Stormers who had a bye last weekend, and who have injuries. I can't write the Crusaders off, not at home. I think it could be close though so I'm only tipping them by 2.

Reds vs Chiefs at Suncorp Stadium - 8:05pm
Right! I suppose I should tip the Chiefs, but I am not going to. The Reds will be keen to win this game, and at Suncorp anything can happen - as we saw in their last home game. I'm tipping the Reds by 1

SUNDAY: Sharks vs Brumbies at ABSA Stadium - 2:00am
A kickoff time for diehard fans here in Australia. The Brumbies were miserable last weekend, and the Sharks are second on the table. Common sense would say that I should tip the Sharks, but I'm going to throw caution to the wind and tip the Brumbies in a close one.

Lions vs Hurricanes at Coca-Cola Park Stadium - 4:10am
Ouch that's early, but we'll be watching :-) I'm going to tip the Canes.

Hurricanes vs Bulls - this arvo in NZ
I know that the Bulls are unbeaten as yet, but they have to travel, and the Canes aren't going to be shy to have a go, so I'm tipping the Canes... by 2 (not very brave huh?)

Highlanders vs Cheetahs - tomorrow arvo (Saturday) at the House of Pain
The Highlanders will be bolstered by a home game this weekend, and let's face it, the Cheetahs are crap. I'm tipping the Highlanders by a comfortable margin.

Chiefs vs Blues - tomorrow later in the arvo
I think the Chiefs will get up over the Blues, alright - I 'hope' the Chiefs will get up over the Blues, so I'm tipping them to win by 3

Waratahs vs Crusaders - tomorrow night (Saturday) in Sydney
Go the Tahs! Go the Tahs! Go the Tahs! I think they're going to beat the Crusaders and have a great time doing so. I'm tipping them by 5.

Force vs Sharks - Saturday night in Perth

Blues vs Cheetahs - Friday arvo
I am tipping the Blues on the basis that the Cheetahs are crap, the Blues are not, and the Kiwi boys are playing at home. Blues by 13

Brumbies vs Waratahs - Friday night
Al Baxter is out for the Tahs (I personally think this is a plus) and the Brumbies will be desperate to beat the Tahs. Still reeling over their loss to the Force two weeks ago and with Wallaby jerseys on the line I think the Brumbies will get up tonight. Should be a great game. Brumbies by a smidge.

Crusaders vs Force - Saturday arvo (2.30pm Brissie time kickoff
The Crusaders will be mighty cranky after their loss to the Highlanders last week, and I doubt that they will let the Force beat them this weekend - unless of course they've gone into Kiwi sulk mode :-) Crusaders by 4

Highlanders vs Chiefs - later Saturday arvo
I know that the Highlanders won last week, but the Chiefs are flying high. The game against the Crusaders was probably the highlight of the Highlanders 2009 season (ouch!) so I'm tipping the Chiefs... by 3

Reds vs Sharks - Saturday night
As much as I would love to tip the Reds, I can't bring myself to do it. I'm tipping the Sharks by 6

Stormers vs Lions - 1am Brissie time Sunday morning
I just can't see the Lions getting up over the Stormers, so I have to tip the Stormers... by 7

Chiefs vs Force - Friday arvo
The poor old Chiefs will be desperate to post a win, but after their performance last week the Force have to be on a high so I'm going to tip them by 5

Waratahs vs Reds - Friday night
The annual grudge match. Anything can happen in these, but since the Tahs are playing at home I'm going to tip them. Sorry Reds.

Hurricanes vs Cheetahs - Saturday 11.30
Bit of a no brainer surely? (I hope I don't get proven to have no brain). I'm tipping the Canes!

Blues vs Sharks - Saturday afternoon
I think the Blues will win this one at home, they'd be happy after last week.

Highlanders vs Crusaders - Saturday arvo
The Highlanders will really want to win this one at home, but I think the Crusaders are going to give them a hiding.

Another local derby, I'm going to tip the Bulls at home.

Some big upsets!

Geez! I have certainly dudded out this round so far. Who WERE those guys playing in the Force jerseys? They LOOKED a lot like the guys who played a couple of crappy games in rounds 1 and 2, but it can't have been them. These guys played well :-) Mind you, I don't think the Brumbies played too well, maybe they took it all a bit too casually? Force 25 to the Brumbies 16 at full time.

The Chiefs/Sharks game was pretty ordinary (read: dull) until the last 20 mins or so when the Chiefs actually started to play! They left their run too late though and went down to the Sharks 15 -22

The Bulls got up over the Lions 16-9. Just as well the Bulls went into half time well ahead; they didn't score a point in the second half.

Those silly Stormers stuffed up my tipping by letting the Blues beat them 14-8. Argh! The Blues deserved the win, the Stormers made too many mistakes.

Reds play shortly - yay! (I hope). Got out to the Norths QUT trial against Randwick yesterday. Randwick had a pile of players out, but it was a good crowd and an enjoyable game!

Canes have a win over the Crusaders 30-24

Wowee!! What a great game! It started off quite so-so, but the Canes fired up and got way out in front to half time - which isn't a bad idea given what the Crusaders can come home with. The Crusaders rallied and came pretty close, in fact scoring 4 tries to 3, but no cigars for them today. McCaw got yellow carded before half time - no prize for guessing it was for coming in from the side. (wah-wah-wahhhhhh)

I know I tipped the Crusaders, but it was great to watch the Canes in action; their quick ball and passing awesome.

Good rugby! The result indicative of the game...

(edit) I forgot... from a 'girly' point of view, the grey strip the Canes wore... not sexy!

Maybe it's a girl thing tipping the team that you WANT to win, rather than the one that you think will win, but the Reds and those silly Highlanders let me down last week with my tipping. grrrrr..... So, I am going to really try this week to use my head (only).

Congratz to Phil Waugh who will get his 100th cap for NSW when he runs on Friday night - doesn't seem that long ago that he ran on for the first time, back when he had more...er... hair :-)

Well the Hurricanes must hate playing at Jade Stadium, they don't often win there in the depths of Crusader land, so I am going to tip the Crusaders.

Waratahs vs Highlanders at Aussie Stadium - Tonight
Jimmy Cowan is back for the Highlanders this week, but Jamie Macintosh is out. The Highlanders have had some wonderful rugby in the first two rounds (pity they can't seal the deal!) but the Tahs won't want to lose this one; at home, unbeaten to date, etc. I am tipping the Tahs!

TOMORROW - SATURDAY
Chiefs vs Sharks at Waikato Stadium - Arvo game
Geez the Chiefs haven't started their campaign well at all have they? They must be a bit down already? They won't be helped this week by the fact that Mils Muliaina and Richard Kahui won't be playing, again. On the bright side, Sione Lauaki is back at number 8, but I have a nagging feeling that this won't be enough to get them over the line this week. I reckon the Sharks will win.

Brumbies vs Western Force at Canberra Stadium - tomorrow night
I love a home derby! It's been kinda sad to watch the Force's last couple of games, but the Brumbies game last week was great! I don't think the Force can topple the Brumbies in Canberra. In fact, I think the Brumbies will win by a country mile!

I'm sure the South Africans love a home derby too :-) The Bulls have been playing well, the Lions have not. I'm tipping the Bulls.

This one could go either way, depending on which way the stars of aligned or some other nonsense like that. The Blues have won 8 of their 12 encounters, and I doubt that they want to get whopped again this week. I think the Stormers are going to get up though.

I'm going to go the Highlanders. I didn't think the Canes were all that great last week, so I'm hoping the Highlanders will get a win in.

Waratahs vs Chiefs - tonight
I'm going to go the Tahs of course! After that performance last week, I just have to back them.

Force vs Cheetahs - later on tonight
I thought the Force were a bit disappointing last week, but I don't like the Cheetahs, so I'm going to tip the Force at home.

Stormers vs QLD Reds (egads! kickoff at 4.10am)
Well, the Stormers will probably win this one, but I'm going to back the Reds - you just never know, and I thought that they were a little unlucky last week, so hopefully.. fingers crossed...

Brumbies vs Crusaders - night time
Oh geez... this is a tricky one. I really REALLY want the Brumbies to win, but the Crusaders are so damn good. Toss a coin and tip the Brumbies, because they're at home.

Anyway, here's what I'm tipping for Round 1 this year.

Game 1 - Friday arvo: Highlanders vs Brumbies

Well, I know that it's hard for anyone to win at the House of Pain in Carisbrook, but I'm tipping the Brumbies to win this one. Sorry my southern Kiwi friends, I just don't think your team will get up.
Tip: Brumbies

Game 2 - Friday night: Western Force vs Blues
I think the Force are ready to rock and roll this year! Playing at Subiaco, the young guns ready to get in and prove their worth, I have to tip the Force
Tip: Force

Game 3 - Saturday morning (like 3 am here in Brissie): Lions vs Cheetahs. Who cares?
Tip: Lions

Game 4 - Saturday arvo: Crusaders vs Chiefs
Geez.... who do you reckon I'd tip?

Game 5 - Saturday later in the arvo: Canes vs the Tahs
I'd love to tip the Tahs, but I just can't. I think the Canes will whip their butts.

I'm going to tip the Stormers - because they're at home.
Tip: Stormers

Game 7 - Sunday morning - Bulls vs Reds
These guys are SO insensitive to my needs... 3.10 kick off my time. Ack! Well, one good thing about a kick off at that hour is that if we win I can ask everyone if they thought it was a great game, and if the Reds lose I can say I didn't bother staying up to watch it :) Don't pretend you don't do the same thing! My heart wants to tip the Reds, but my head says the Bulls will win this game.
Tip: Bulls

Let's hope the rugby is great, the bushfires stay away, and the flood waters continue to ease.

I sure did - for a couple of years. Health issues. Life.

In the current doom and gloom of bushfires and floods here in Oz, the current economic horror.... one of the saddest and most tragic weeks here in Australia EVER. Bring on Super 14 Rugby! Give us something to cheer about.

I'm not going to run my own tipping comp any longer, instead I recommend that you go join one of the 'freebie' ones out there that have great prizes.

Super 14 Rugby round 3 tips

There's some curly ones to pick (again!) in Round 3. So here goes nothing.....

Round 3 Super 14 2006 Tips.

Tonight/Early tomorrow morning:

Hurricanes vs Cats (in Wellington - Live on Fox at 5.30pm AEDT) The Canes will be without Conrad Smith who broke his leg against the Force, but Tana Umaga is expected to play tonight and I reckon the Canes will get up in front so I'm tipping them to win by 3.

Force vs Chiefs (in Perth - Live on Fox at 10.00pm AEDT) Well, this is one of the curly ones... the Force haven't performed anywhere near as well as I had hoped as yet, and the Chiefs haven't been going well either. I'm going to give my tip to the Force, hoping that the home ground advantage will work for them tonight, and I'll give it to them by a point.

Stormers vs Brumbies (in Cape Town - Live on Fox at 4.00am AEDT) I should have known better last week than to tip against my beloved Brumbies - maybe Stephen Larkham can spank me.. heh :) The Stormers only just went down last week to the Tahs, and the Brumbies haven't hit their best form yet, but I'm going to go for the Brumbies to win by 3.

Tomorrow/Early Sunday morning:

Crusaders vs Sharks (in Timaru - Live on Fox at 3.30pm AEDT) I don't think you'd find too many people backing the Sharks over the Crusaders. I'm going to go the Canterbury boys by 12. (and no I DON'T want to talk about their game against the Reds last Saturday!)

Reds vs Blues (in Brisbane - Live on Fox at 8.30 AEDT) You know, the Reds played a much much better game last week against the Crusaders than they did against the Tahs. Sure, they ran out of gas in the last 20 mins, but still, their performance was encouraging. So, I'm hoping that I'm going to see plenty of Kiwis crying tears in their beers at Suncorp tomorrow night and I'm going to tip the Reds to win by 2. (we're an optimistic lot us Queenslanders :)

Bulls vs Waratahs (in Pretoria - Live on Fox at 2.00am AEDT) Another curly one! This game could go either way I should think. Wendell of course won't be playing for the Tahs after his extra curricular performance last weekend. I suspect the Tahs will perform better without Wendell, so I'm going for the Tahs to win by 4.

Cheetahs vs Highlanders (in Bloemfontein - Live on Fox at 4.00am AEDT) I don't know which way this game will go. The Highlanders are away from home and have had a pile of injuries, and the Cheetahs had a good win over the Sharks last weekend. I'm going to tip the Highlanders by a point *gulp*.

So I finally moved, and I have... at last... got ADSL up and running. It wasn't my fault - some tech issue with the isp (or so I was told).

Anyway, onwards and forwards.

I only managed to score 4 points in last week's tips - but there were 4 tippers who scored 6 points in the 'Tip the Winners'. Of those four, the first name to appear on the Tip the Scores leaderboard is.... drumroll.... Charlie White, who lives down in NSW. Congratz Charlie! If you drop me an email I'll send you out your $5 weekly scratchie ticket.

I guess I'd better go check out this round's games... back shortly with some tips.

I've had a squiz at the games this weekend, so here I go for the first time this season. I'm sure I"ll make quite a fool of myself again... :)

Round 2 Super 14 2006 Tips.

Tonight:

Highlanders vs the Blues - in Dunedin (live on Foxsports at 5.30pm EST).
The Highlanders have been hit with injuries early in the season with Matt Saunders and Paul Williams ruled out for the season. The Blues have Angus Macdonald and Ben Atiga out for tonight's game. The Highlanders are usually good at the House of Pain, and the Blues lost last week to the Hurricanes. I think this match could go either way, but I'm going to tip the Highlanders by a point.

Tonight/Tomorrow morning.
Cats vs the Chiefs in Johannesburg (live on Foxsports at 2.55am EST). The Chiefs got beaten last weekend by the Sharks, but I think the Cats are pretty ordinary so I'm tipping the Chiefs by 6

Bulls v Brumbies in Pretoria (live on Foxsportst at 4.55am EST). I do like the Brumbies, but the Bulls have really started off the 2006 season on fire, and I suspect that those big forwards will take their toll on the Brumbies, and the backs will have to keep an eye on Bryan Habana - how quick is that guy? I'm tipping the Bulls by 2, but I hope the Brumbies get up and have a win to make Stephen Larkham's 100th game for the Brumbies a good one!

Tomorrow:
Hurricanes vs the Force in New Plymouth (live on Foxsports at 5.35.pm EST). The Western Force are still finding their feet, and I think that beating the Hurricanes in NZ is just too big an ask at this stage, particularly given the form of the Canes last weekend. I'm going for the Canes by 6.

Reds vs the Crusaders in Brisbane (live on Foxsports at 8.00pm EST). Er..... um..... geeez... I love going to the rugby but I think the carnage could be too much for me to take. I'm tipping the Crusaders by 12 (plus the rest).

Sharks vs the Cheetahs in Durban (live on Foxsports at 2.00am EST). I'm going to go for the Sharks by 5 (??)

Waratahs vs the Stormers in Cape Town (live on Foxsports at 4.00am EST). This is another one of those both way tips. Both of these teams won last weekend, and while I think the Tahs are a better team, it's hard to win in RSA. Still, I'm going to tip the Tahs by 3.

Well, that's it from me for a bit! I'll get the tipping prizes sorted asap.
